Overview

Civil Engineering is the oldest engineering discipline. This professional engineering discipline deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings, water supply and waste water treatment. Civil engineering plays a vital role in implementation of all infrastructural development plans of the world. Civil Engineering branch is one of the core branches which incorporates precious contributions for achieving solutions to the emerging challenges in industry and varied sectors of engineering education. Civil Engineering is one of the main pillars of the advancement of any country through establishing the infrastructure projects necessary for the welfare of human beings.

Vision

The Department of Civil Engineering targets to be a Center of Excellence in the World of Sustainable Development by providing distinguished Civil Engineering Education, Research and Social Services. Our students are trained in such a way that they can play a vital role in all development plans of the country by involving themselves. Students are given opportunity to interact with industries through site visits and training.

This discipline is responsible for any infrastructural development that takes place. In today's times there is a lot of scope of Civil Engineering in India and abroad. Professionals of this branch use their analytical abilities and knowledge to design beautiful buildings, highways, bridges, stadia etc. Communication and transmission line towers are conceptualized, designed and economized by civil engineers and they help run other branches smoothly.

The academic program includes regular field exercises and visits to construction sites to give exposure to our students and train them to take the challenges in the industrial environment.

The Department of Civil Engineering continues to maintain and cultivate its strong links with the infrastructural industry, academic and research institutions both within and outside the country.

Mission

The Department's mission is to prepare students for a distinguished career in the field of Civil Engineering by educating students to be able to apply knowledge and diverse sets of skills, focus on practical and innovative research, and work in teams, communicate effectively and uphold ethical standards of professional practice to solve problems with pragmatic solutions.

HOD Message

The department of civil engineering, in IIMET fulfills the requirement of acquisition of various skills by well designed curriculum of Rajasthan technical university, well qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty and staff, well equipped infrastructure like laboratories, and effective teaching learning process.

At the department of civil engineering IIMET fulfills the requirement of equipping the students for real world by blending real world problems in the curriculum and teaching by experts from industry and other institutions. Through the practical training, project work, industrial visit, guest lectures and exposure to software, our students are well equipped for the real world. Further, involving students in industry institute interaction, continuing education, research and consultancy and link with community programmes, they are exposed to real world problems in civil engineering. Without engineers, the quality of our day-to-day life that we often take for granted, would not be available. Civil & Mechanical engineers do great things for our society. Civil engineers are responsible for the infrastructure that transports goods and people; the buildings that we live, work, and recreate in; the technologies to deliver safe drinking water, manage our waste, and remediate hazards; and the systems that protect us against natural disasters. In other words, civil engineers design, construct, and maintain almost every part of our communities, build environment that we live in every day. These dedicated professionals continue to push the boundaries of what is physically possible in order to produce safer, cheaper, and more efficient machines— from aircraft carriers to household appliances. Civil Engineering provides students with a solid foundation in the engineering sciences and a strong grounding in practical, problem-solving skills. This combined approach, along with hands-on project experiences, makes IIMET graduates ready and able to hit the ground running and add value from the very start of their careers.

Academics

The Department has well equipped infrastructural facilities and laboratories. The department has developed its facilities in such a way that students can do self study and undertake other curricular activities. Special attention is paid for developing positive attitude, leadership, team work and safety consciousness in the laboratories and workshops. The Department of Civil Engineering at IIMET has initiated efforts for preparing the upcoming civil engineers to contribute appreciably for bringing in sustainable improvements for society.
